6 February 2025 marks Time to Talk Day, the UK’s biggest mental health conversation, led by Mind and Rethink Mental Illness in partnership with Co-op. The aim? To encourage open discussions about mental health, reduce stigma, and create supportive communities where people feel heard.

At Longleigh Foundation, we proudly support Stonewater customer’s mental wellbeing through our Circles of Support Programme, delivered in partnership with The Kaleidoscope Group. In 2024 alone, we provided support to over 80 people, helping them work through challenges such as anxiety, trauma, and confidence-building.

One of those individuals was Jayne.

Jayne’s Story: From Anxiety to Confidence

After experiencing domestic abuse, Jayne struggled with severe anxiety, and panic attacks that left her feeling trapped. Even the thought of leaving her home felt overwhelming.

With our funded counselling programme, she took gradual steps towards regaining control—learning to manage her anxiety, build confidence, and reclaim her independence. Working with a therapist, Jayne explored the root of her anxiety and used solution-focused techniques, including exposure therapy, to regain control at her own pace. Small steps, like preparing to leave the house without pressure to go anywhere, helped her slowly reduce fear and rebuild confidence.

Jayne expressed one simple goal—to regain the confidence to do daily things again. She said:

“It was nice to feel heard and to go at my own pace. I’ve enjoyed our work together.”

Why Talking matters

Mental health struggles can feel isolating, but talking can be the first step toward recovery. A simple conversation, whether with a friend, colleague, or support service can make all the difference.

This Time to Talk Day, we encourage everyone to start a conversation. Share your experiences, check in on those around you, and create safe spaces for open discussions. Because when we talk together, we heal together.
