A person wearing a dark coat and backpack walks along a park path beside a young child riding a scooter. The path is bordered by grass, trees, benches, and parked cars in the background on an autumn day.

How a Longleigh Immediate Resettlement grant helped Vanessa

A Longleigh Immediate Resettlement grant helped Vanessa and her son access food after she left home overnight and lost access to her money. She describes that time as extremely stressful and worrying.

Staff at the service where she was staying referred her to Longleigh for support. She didn’t expect much.

“I thought I’d get one small voucher as a one off.”

Instead, she had food while her money was being sorted out.

For Vanessa, what mattered most was being able to feed her son when everything else was so uncertain.

“Having a fridge full of food for me and my son, was an absolute blessing whilst we were in the worst time of our life. I cannot put into words the difference it made.”

It’s still early days. But Vanessa says:

“We are safe and happy and that’s the main thing.”
