Dayne’s Story: A Youth Mentoring Journey

Dayne Donegan is in a black hoodie and cap labelled with the Evolving Mentoring logo speaks to three teenage boys in a classroom setting, with one boy drinking from a cup. A large blue banner beside them reads: “EVOLVING MENTORING. Evolving Mentoring works in a Therapeutic, Trauma informed manner, we aim to help young people recognise and achieve their full potential.” The background shows posters and computer equipment.
Evolving Mentoring received a grant from Longleigh to start their business mentoring young people in the Reading area.

Empowering the next generation: re-introducing Dayne.

At a difficult point in life, he made a bold decision. He decided not just to rebuild, but to create something that could support others too.

With an Education, Training and Employment (ETE) grant from Longleigh, Dayne launched Evolving Mentoring. This youth mentoring service helps young people access alternative education, stay focused, stay hopeful and feel seen.

Dayne’s journey began with a clear vision to guide and support young people in his community. With determination and a strong sense of purpose, he turned that vision into reality.

He brings lived experience, empathy and drive to everything he does. His story shows what’s possible when someone is given the right support at the right time, in a way that works for them.

Dayne Shares:

“I felt the grant process from Longleigh Foundation was ridiculously smooth. For the people out there, take the support. All you need is a plan! If you have a solid plan that you think is something that could make a difference for you or the community, then please reach out.”

We first shared Dayne’s story in written form. Now, we’re proud to present it in a new video format that captures the heart of his mission and the positive change he’s leading in his community.

What Dayne has built speaks volumes about the strength of purpose and the value of backing someone’s potential.

This video is part of our ongoing commitment to sharing real stories from the social housing communities we exist to serve. Hearing about Dayne’s journey and his belief in young people has been truly inspiring for all of us at Longleigh.

Thank you to Dayne, to the volunteers and staff at Evolving Mentoring, to our partners at Stonewater, and to Chris Marchant, Stonewater’s Digital Storyteller for helping bring this story to life.
