Keep Warm And Stay Supported With Winter Energy Saving Tips

A wooden house-shaped ornament wrapped in a thick gray knitted scarf rests on top of a white radiator. The Longleigh Foundation logo appears in the top-right corner, suggesting a focus on warmth, housing, or energy support.

It’s hard to believe it’s almost February already, and with it comes colder days and higher energy bills. We know keeping your home warm can be a worry, but small changes can help cut costs without sacrificing comfort. Below, we’ve shared some simple energy saving tips to help you stay warm while keeping costs down. Plus, if you’re struggling, support is available for you.

Simple Ways to Save on Energy

  • Use Your Heating Wisely: Set your thermostat to the lowest comfortable temperature (18-21°C). Lowering it by just 1°C can save around £100 a year.
  • Stop Heat Escaping: Close curtains at night and use draught excluders to keep warmth inside. Even a rolled-up towel against a draughty door can make a difference.
  • Only Heat the Rooms You Use: If you have radiators with thermostatic valves, turn them down in rooms you don’t use often.
  • Layer Up: Warm clothes and blankets help you feel comfortable without cranking up the heating.
  • Use Energy Efficient Appliances: Only boil the water you need, wash clothes at 30°C, and switch off standby appliances to save on electricity.
