Supporting the development of a National Tenant Alliance

Tenants at the Table research report made a clear and compelling case for a new national organisation that ensures social housing tenants have the opportunity to shape policy that impacts their lives.

Following the report, tenants have come together to start the design and shape this new National Tenant Alliance (the current working title) and have asked Longleigh to act as an accountable body, to assist with tasks such as securing funds and back office support. As Joseph De-Ville, Chair of the Voices for Tenants Steering Group that oversaw the commission of the Tenants at the Table report, said:

“The absence of an unmediated national level voice for tenants of social housing is a scandal that needs to be urgently addressed. The release of this report is an important step towards ensuring that over four million people aren’t sidelined in important conversations about the issues that affect their day-to-day lives.”

Longleigh Foundation has secured funding for the next stage of this project, which has been used to bring in support from THCA who are backing tenants to:

  • Design and deliver workshops so that as many tenants as possible can help shape the design and governance of this new organisation
  • Start building a team, of tenant leaders who will be instrumental in shaping the organisation to come
  • And once tenants have set out exactly how this organisation will work, THCA will fully cost the plans so that Longleigh can work on behalf of tenants to secure the funding needed to build this organisation from the ground up.

The project working group of tenants are keen to ensure full transparency of the project – so minutes of each meeting will be published here:
