New Individual Grants criteria now live
Posted on 22nd July 2025

More flexibility, choice and clarity
We’ve launched our updated criteria for Individual Grants that is shaped by what our customers told us they need.
What’s changed and why?
Our refreshed criteria are clearer, more flexible, and offer more dignity and choice. This comes directly from what we heard during our consultation with 73 grant applicants in May 2024.
Here’s what we’ve introduced:
Two new grants
- Heating & Eating Grant: supporting everyday essentials in response to the cost-of-living crisis.
- Immediate Resettlement Grant: replacing Crisis Grants, and now available to more customers, including those who have arrived at Refuges and Youth Support accommodations.
We’ve also introduced:
- Cash first options: offering dignity and flexibility
- Part payment options: for items like flooring or white goods, we can now accept joint funding (e.g. from family or other charities)
- Wider supplier base: including more online retailers to offer more choice to Stonewater customers.
- Clearer guidance: with updated categories and improved explanations
The feedback that shaped these changes
- 95% of customers felt our criteria were clear and transparent
- The same number felt supported throughout the process
- Our overall rating was 93%
“I had a fantastic experience. There are no suggestions I could make to improve this service.” – Grant recipient
We’re proud to have taken this feedback onboard and created a more responsive approach for the people we serve.
