Research Partner Needed: Social Housing in Rural Communities
Posted on 9th December 2024
The Longleigh Foundation is embarking on an important research initiative to explore the critical role social housing can play in addressing the need for affordable homes in rural areas. We are excited to announce that our search for a research partner is now live!
The Need for Rural Affordable Housing
Affordable housing in rural communities is a cornerstone of thriving local economies and societies. It helps retain local workforces, sustains essential public services, and supports the vibrancy of rural economies. However, significant challenges remain in ensuring that the existing social housing stock meets the evolving needs of these communities.
Our planned research project aims to:
- Evaluate the suitability of current rural social housing stock in meeting the needs of existing residents.
- Identify changes required to overcome barriers to delivering more affordable housing.
- Develop key recommendations for government and policymakers to support rural housing solutions.

We are inviting organisations to tender for this vital piece of work. Our ideal research partner will have:
- Proven expertise in housing and rural policy research.
- The capacity to deliver high-quality insights on time and within budget.
- Creative approaches to uncovering actionable solutions for rural housing challenges.
